Many thanks to the many faculty and staff members who were involved with Senior Project 2008. From Mentors to the many who attended the Senior Project Exhibit, each and every one of you contributed to the positive final experience for the seniors who participated.

There were a number of changes in the expectations, structure, and management of Senior Projects this year. If you were an Advisor, Mentor, or Sponsor to a student we would really appreciate any constructive criticism you might be willing to share. We would also like to encourage Senior Project Committee Members and people who attended the Senior Project Exhibit to send along suggestions and feedback.

Project Profile - Kate

Kate Minister of Manchester, England is working with Patrice Martin to further her knowledge of ceramic styles and techniques. A typical day includes focused time on the wheel, throwing bowls, plates, and cups. In addition, Kate has been working as a teaching assistant in many of Patrice's Ceramic Skills classes.

Kate is completing an abbreviated Senior Project, which requires that she devote a minimum of 15 hours a week involved with specific aspects of her Project. An abbreviated program allows her to continue playing Girl's Varsity Softball. In her first week, she spent 17.5 hours in Pottery Studio. In her Weekly Reflection she commented that she has "learned to use different resources other than what I see other students make...I have explored the Internet and scanned books to look a the different styles and textures available in the world of ceramics."

Project Profile - Hannah and Molly

I caught up with Molly and Hannah this morning at Proctor Child Care. Molly was reading a book to Lagan, and Hannah was pointing out some unique features on a tadpole to a little girl.

Their sponsor, Child Care Director - Raz, is thrilled with Hannah and Molly. They are focused, organized, and enthusiastic. The little kiddos are equally as thrilled. I observed long enough to witness genuine care and respect between the 3/4 age group and two of Proctor's finest.

Daily journal entries should include the activities the student focused on throughout that day. In addition, it should indicate the hours worked. At the end of each week, each student will post a Reflections piece that will tie in their objectives and progress toward goals.

Welcome to the home page of the Senior Projects for 2008. This page will link you to the journals for each participating senior. The students will be journaling on a daily basis, Monday through Friday, starting May 5th and ending May 23rd. In addition, the students will be posting Weekly Reflections at the end of each week.

Please feel free to comment. Notes of encouragement or specific questions are welcome.
